KittiCo Cat Rescue Unveils Ambulance

Posted: 11/08/2007

On Monday, November 12, KittiCo Cat Rescue will unveil its first ambulance, to be used for the rescue and protection of stray and feral cats in the Dallas - Fort Worth metropolitan area and North Central Texas.

Graphic design students from The Art Institute of Dallas donated hours of their time to design the ambulance graphics. The ambulance is being purchased as part of a grant from PetSmart Charities, and students incorporated the PetSmart logo into the design.

Instructor Chad Hardy’s students created an online database that KittiCo workers at the Spay/Neuter Clinic will use to enter data on each cat that is treated there. The database will be used to learn more about feral and stray homless cats, and to enable more accurate community assessments in order to humanely address animal overpopulation. It will also steamline KittiCo’s ability to track rescued cats and to determine information about the geographic dispersement of these cats. Cat records can be pulled up via the Internet from any location to track cats based on date, zip code, and name. Because these are medical records that contain personal information, the public will not be able to tap into the database, but KittiCo and the cats they rescue will reap the benefits.

Says Angie Thomas, Executive Director of KittiCo Cat Rescue, “The Art Institute’s talented work is invaluable to helping us accomplish our mission and will help thousands of area cats. Their beautiful graphics tell a story that will captivate people, including children, and help educate our community.”

The unveiling of the ambulance is open to the public and will take place at 8:30am just outside the KittiCo Cat Rescue Clinic in Dallas (2520 Electronic Lane, near the intersection of I-35 and Walnut Hill Lane). Tours of the newly-expanded spay/neuter clinic are available for the press and a continental breakfast will follow.

This event kicks off a groundbreaking investment to reach the long-term goal of reducing unnecessary pet euthanasia and finding a lifelong, loving home for every adoptable pet in Dallas.
